Yoga has given me much more than I could have ever imagined. Pretty much all of my life I have been a sporty fitness fanatic, whether that is water-sports, ski-ing, snowboarding, running, a daily gym go-er, aerobics, body-pump and cross-training class regular – you get the picture! So much so, that once upon a time I had wanted to become a personal trainer on the side of my day job (which I was actually in the purpose of studying for, before I changed my mind last minute to fly to India and become a yoga teacher instead!). To help you understand why this was the best decision I had made, let’s just say, similarly to Cathy in her blog post;

After temporarily leaving my corporate 9-5 career in digital marketing behind me to embark on a four-year world travel adventure that wasn’t always smooth sailing, yoga was my saviour.
Without really realising it at the time, I was almost starting to lose myself and my identity in this big old world. I wasn’t serving my purpose, and although I made the most of situations (easy while exploring new cultures and experiencing different countries), my gut and instincts knew deep down that life had something different for me out there, something more purposeful.
When I decided to fly to India to do my yoga teacher training, it was very spontaneous. I had given up a job sailing around the beautiful clear waters and white sandy islands of the Pacific Ocean and had returned to the UK in the cold February time of the year. I needed to escape and do something for myself and my own personal progression. So I found the earliest available yoga training in Rishikesh, booked myself onto it and with little reaction to my family’s worrying response, flew out within days.
At the time, I was only interested in becoming more flexible, toned and stronger. I cared about the physical physique of the body only. However, a month in India forced me to embrace meditation, spirituality and philosophy. Yet, it didn’t immediately transform me there and then. After a long tiring month of yoga, meditation, a strict plant-based diet and intense learning, I was happy to book a business class flight to Thailand, kick back on the plane and drink champagne! – its all about the balance right?!
However, it must have sparked something as from that moment on I was a regular practitioner of yoga and I even started to meditate, something I had never bothered with or even knew how to do before.
Looking back I can clearly see how yoga eventually gave me the strength, confidence, determination and drive to get myself back on track to following my true happiness.
Now I am living my happiest life yet. I am not galavanting all over the world looking for happiness to feel fulfilled. Instead, I have returned back to my roots where I belong, surrounded by loved ones and my happiness comes from these precious moments and from deep within. My gratitude, faith and belief in the teachings of yoga for the mind, body and soul has been the main contributor. I believe in the law of attraction and I believe yoga puts you on the right path for the universe to shuffle itself to gradually answer your visions and dreams one-by-one.
One final perk of yoga? Well, it wouldn’t be a full answer if I didn’t express how I love being a teacher of yoga in Cheltenham, the English Cotswolds. I love making people feel happier, more positive-minded and rejuvenated after every class. My students know they can switch off and move their body in ways they don’t normally, all while smoothing out knots, gaining more focus and clarity and releasing stress.
So, when people ask me how yoga has changed my life, the answer is way more profound than I ever would have thought when I first decided to fly to India almost three years ago.
