8 Tips To Survive The Mercury Retrograde

There is something quite remarkable happening in our planetary system right now: the Mercury Retrograde. Even if you do not follow astrology, you must pay attention.

The Mercury Retrograde will occur from December 3rd until the 22nd December 2017. Once you discover how situations in your life will be affected by this phase, you will start taking note of future retrogrades.

It is so important to be mindful of what is happening in our solar system so that you can prepare yourself for the intensity that is ready to erupt.

I will explain the what’s, why’s and how’s for you in this article, so grab your coffee and stay alert!

So, what is the Mercury Retrograde?

Let’s strip it right back to basics… Mercury is the smallest planet of our solar system and is situated closest to the Sun. Its orbital period around the sun is 88 days, which is much shorter than all the other planets in the solar system, including Earth.

Approximately three to four times per year, Mercury speeds past Earth. As it circles round the bend, it moves slightly slower causing an illusion that it is going in reverse. This is what astrologists call a retrograde period. Astrologically, the planet is in a resting or sleeping state during the retrograde.

The turbulence and disruption Mercury creates as it speeds past Earth when it retrogrades can affect what we feel on Earth in our everyday lives.

Mercury is the planet of all types of communication, travel, and technology. Therefore, all that it governs is affected.

But how will the Mercury Retrograde actually affect us?

For the next few weeks, all of the truths and feelings you’ve been keeping hidden inside of you will come to the surface. During this period, you can expect to experience a feeling of uneasiness, miscommunications, and pandemonia.

Survive the Mercury Retrograde…

  • Finish old projects

The Mercury Retrograde is an ideal time for tying all those loose ends from existing projects you once started. Most of us start a million things that we don’t complete, never realizing how much psychic clutter this creates. This is an ideal time to draw a close to these projects, but make certain that you are 100% happy before deciding the project is finished.

  • Be wary of new ventures

Now is not a good time to be pursuing new life-changing endeavors. This is mainly because we aren’t able to get all the answers we need to make a trustworthy and suitable plan. Reconsider decisions you have been wanting to make or have already made. Ensure you have thoroughly thought about all avenues repeatedly. Be careful about signing contracts or any types of important documents during this phase.

  • Cobwebs from the past

The Mercury Retrograde will bring about a sense of sentimental emotions. People from your past may reach out to you and it is important to listen to what they have to say. You will reflect on the past during this phase, but once it is over, you will be able to move on from the past with clarity. Reconnecting with old friends and relatives is very common during retrograde periods and you may feel the urge to walk down memory lane.

  • Embracing the present moment

Use this astrological phase to learn how to become more present and at one with yourself. Explore your inner being by meditating and learning to become comfortable with who you are. Allow yourself to fully immerse your thoughts in each passing moment. Recognise the present in all its beauty and perfection. There will be delays and setbacks but the moment will still be perfect if you allow it to be. This is an excellent time to welcome fresh perspectives that are revealed to you during this phase and you may experience intellectual, emotional or spiritual breakthroughs while meditating.

  • Open your heart to opportunities

Practice gratitude and focus on visioning your ideal life. Dreams will materialise if you open your heart to the possibilities of the karmic power of the Mercury Retrograde. Try to remove doubts or any negative perspectives that may be hindering you from moving forward. Again, once you open yourself up to the idea of welcoming change or a new way of looking at a situation, positive events will start to reveal themselves to you if you allow them to flow into your life.

  • ‘Bite your tongue’

Communication is affected by the Mercury Retrograde. Therefore, you should pause, think and breathe before speaking, especially if you are feeling confrontational. You may find yourself getting into bizarre arguments over absolutely nothing.

  • Plan ahead!

If you have to travel or use technology during the Mercury Retrograde, make sure you plan for any mishaps. It is well-known for transport services to be delayed, cars to break down and computer equipment to fail. You can plan by leaving for an appointment slightly earlier than normal, backing up all your data on your laptop and phone, and preparing for any possible miscommunications.

  • Safe bet: Re…

If you are in doubt of what you should or shouldn’t be doing during this astrological event, stay calm. The Mercury Retrograde is a great time to take part in anything that begins with the prefix ‘re-‘; refresh, revive, review, recall, reconcile, recover, reflect, recycle, research, refinish, refocus, reformulate… So why not revamp your home, refresh your space, reconcile with a friend, review your finances, relax and rejuvenate, (the list goes on)? See, it’s not all so doom and gloom after all 🙂

Generally speaking, the best way to handle the turbulence of the Mercury Retrograde is to meditate and stay calm throughout. View this retrograde as a review; a chance to refresh and cleanse your mind and soul. Make time every day to focus on a clear vision for the future and be at one with yourself as you move forward into the new year.
