YOGA STARS is a new weekly feature at Vibrant Yogini where an amazing yoga teacher or enthusiast will be interviewed about their beautiful journey and views as a yogi! It has been created to try and remove the gap between our confident and expert yogi’s, and those who have just started to practice yoga or who are curious to learn more about it. We never want you to feel intimidated or discouraged. Therefore, it is important to remember that each and every yogi started fresh from the beginning as a newbie once upon a time! Our aim is to motivate you to continue your journey no matter where you are on it.
Designed to inspire your yoga practice and encourage you to follow your dreams.
“Teaching students how to approach a YOGA practice as a form of healing” ~ Ali
Yoga Star: Ali King aka @AliKingYoga
Where are you currently based?
Where are you originally from?
Irish Londoner 😉 i’m a little bit of both!
When did you start practicing yoga and why?
I have been a Reiki healer for over ten years, the practice is very meditation and mind orientated.
I started yoga over 7 years ago to connect both body and mid practice.
I feel so happy not that I have both the healing energy from Reiki and the physical art of yoga in my life.
What got you hooked?
With hatha yoga it was the physical strength I built up.
For Aerial it was the floating in a hammock sensation and for Yin it is the total release and connection to the earth.
What is your favourite asana and why?
I love Camel ..Ustrasana & Wheel ..
I have a pretty open spine now from so much practice between the arts of Aerial and Hatha.
I really enjoy deepening my backbends using hammock ropes and on the mat.
Where did you do your training/s and what courses have you completed?
Oh that’s a long answer we could be here all day!
Ughhh can I write it all down?
I have completed:
- Aerial Yoga Training in Fundamentals
- Yoga 1 & 2
- Suspension Advance
- I have also done my 200 hr Yoga Alliance,
- and have moved onto my 500 hour
- while completing my Yin Yoga teacher training hours with Sarah Lo (triyoga trainer)
- I have also completed a guided meditation Diploma
- and my full Reiki Master Lineage which took years.
As this may indicate I’m not a young yogi anymore!
How has yoga impacted your life?
Yoga has helped my life, by bringing me closer to others.
Which type of yoga do you teach/ specialize in?
Aerial Yoga – Yin Yoga & Vinyasa
What’s your mission as a yoga instructor?
I believe in the energy of healing – for me, to teach yoga is to share a healing art.
If you could give only one piece of advice to others who are looking to start yoga what would it be?
RELAX & BREATHE, YOU ARE THE MASTER OF YOUR OWN practice, my voice is here to guide you.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone who is just starting out as a teacher what would it be?
Try and connect to your own true style & voice, this can be difficult when there are so many strong masters.
What is one of your favorite mantras or affirmations that you don’t mind sharing?
My mantra is HEAL LOVE FLOW, when I am leading guiding meditations during a yoga workshop I like to focus on the energy of healing and love.
I use crystal star visualistion, and work with healing light energies.
This can feel so wonderful when floating in a hammock at the end of an Aerial Class.
What is one of your favorite yoga quotes?
“OPEN UP SPACE IN BOTH BODY AND MIND”
If you could have a secret power, what would in be?
I’d become an Angel … I love angels I have angel tattoos on both my arms and back.
I am an Angel card reader and often call in Angels & Guides during my yoga meditation sessions.

Almost there, but first let’s find you the correct gear to take with you…
When packing to go on a wellness holiday, it is useful to take your own personal travel mat and gear. Finding the correct equipment that fully suits your needs is important to prevent injuries and help you reap the benefits of yoga and exercise. I personally have to have a slightly thicker yoga mat than average otherwise the lower part of my back doesn’t feel cushioned enough making me feel so sore after only one or two sessions! Barefoot yoga supplied a wide variety of sustainable and comfortable yoga props and gear. Browse their collection here.
Are you getting enough vitamins during your travels? or even, at home?
Sometimes when we go travelling, we can be limited to what food is available at the destinations we travel to. This often makes us feel sluggish and tired. You can overcome the common negative effects of travelling with yoga stretches. Read the guide here. Plus, you can supplement stretches with nutritional vitamins. Us health-conscious yogi’s usually travel with organic supplements to help keep us healthy while on the road. The last thing we ever want while on vacation is to become sick!
AND, if you often suffer from stomach problems while on the road, there is an excellent all-natural recovery formula:
Well that’s all for now! Make sure you keep an eye out for the Yoga Star featuring at Vibrant Yogini next Friday!
